Technology education is an absolute necessity for student success, no matter what age or career path they will choose! The apps I have chosen below support the STEM subjects as they offer development in science and math for early elementary. They are interactive, fun, and allow students to work at their own pace. Some of the most significant learning is informal and happens outside the classroom, and most importantly is inquiry-based.
1. BrainPOPjr. - Video-based teaching including all subject areas. Students may then click on related topics, take quizzes, or read jokes on a particular topic. Enhances student differentiation by allowing students to choose various features related to a topic.
2. Hungry Fish - Interactive math game students choose a math area they want to concentrate on like subtraction or fractions. Enhances student differentiation by allowing various levels of difficulty ranging from 1-18.
3. KidScience - This is a FANTASTIC app for teachers but can be used by upper elementary students as well. You can choose science experiments from a list, by age group, science type, amount of time, and my favorite: "What's in my Pantry?"
4. Time Math - Nice app for students learning to tell time. Great for student differentiation as it features tutorials and quizzing with ranges from easy, medium, hard, and harder.
5. Division - Great app for students learning division. If the student inputs an incorrect number, it beeps and highlights in red. Once the correct number is chosen, it highlights in green and moves onto the next step. Enhances student differentiation by allowing students to ask for a hint, ask for help, or play a tutorial to guide them to the correct answer.
