W506 Using Internet in the K-12 Classroom
I created this web page during the Spring 2013 semester for the W506 course Using Internet in the K-12 Classroom. The projects listed below demonstrate my knowledge of content and the use of best practices in delivering effective instruction to all students via the use of technology and the internet.
Tagul World Cloud
Tagul is a web service that enables users to create a unique tag cloud and embed it on a web page. Each word is automatically linked to a Google search results page or users may insert a specific URL. I used Tagul to create a word cloud using math vocabulary with specific hyperlinks for each word's definition.
Kerpoof
I used Kerpoof to create a "Phases of the Moon" story. This is one of four tools I researched for the the 50+ Web 2.0 Ways to Tell a Story project. Kerpoof is a website produced by Disney. It offers users a creative platform to produce artwork in a variety of themes and styles. Users may create stories, drawings, cards, or movies that may be printed, e-mailed, or embedded to a website. This tool could also be used for student portfolios.
One True Media
Next, I used One True Media to create a "Phases of the Moon" story for the 50+ Web 2.0 Ways to Tell a Story project. One True Media is a platform for creating easy videos by mixing photos and video with effects, text and music and users may then post to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or embedded to a website. This tool could also be used for student portfolios.
Animoto
Next, I used Animoto to create a "Phases of the Moon" story for the 50+ Web 2.0 Ways to Tell a Story project. Animoto is a platform for creating video slideshows with music and can be embedded to a website. This tool could also be used for student portfolios.
Make your own photo slideshow at Animoto.
Glogster
For my last 50+ Web 2.0 Ways to Tell a Story project, I chose Glogster to create a poster for my
"Phases of the Moon" story. Glogster is an online poster creation platform that uses interactive text, images, graphics, music, and video that can be printed or embedded to a website. This tool could also be used for student portfolios.

allows users to have conversations and to make comments using any mix of text, microphone, web cam, telephone, or uploaded audio file. I participated in a VoiceThread discussion regarding Twitter in Education. |
Mural.ly
Mural.ly is an online visual collaboration tool. I collaborated with my peers to create notes with links to our favorite educational technology blogs.
Google Earth & Google Lit Trips
I used Google Earth in order to create a Google Lit Trip of the path used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. I live in Clark County so I started the path in the historic town of Clarksville, Indiana. At various points along the path, there are placemarks with a link about the historical area. You may then click on the link to discover the importance of the area as well as excerpts from the journals of Lewis and Clark.
Creating Parent Connections
I used Wallwisher to communicate with parents and students. Wallwisher is a great resource tool that can be used for homework posts, important reminders, webpage bookmarks, video links, keeping notes, and creating polls.
Similar Site SearchI used Similar Site Search to locate similar websites within a specific category. My original website was weatherkids.com and here are a few of the suggested sites given: theweatherchannelkids.com, www.wxdude.com and eo.ucar.edu/webweather.
