When I last taught 6 years ago, my school had just purchased their first SMART Board. The one SMART Board was for the entire K-5 grades. I used it several times in my first grade classroom. I created mini lessons to emphasize capitalization and punctuation. The students were very eager to use this technology. They enjoyed correcting sentences and highlighting words they could read. It’s incredible to see the amount of whiteboard apps there are now.
I recently reviewed Doceri, ChompScreen, and SyncPad. The 3 whiteboard apps are all very similar in their capabilities. They are interactive, collaborative and allow the user to create, record and share ideas live in the classroom or remotely via email. The only difference was the SyncPad app which does not require shared users to be in the same room. Users only need an internet connection in order to collaborate live. All 3 apps are free, but the SyncPad app requires a fee of $10.49 for the upgraded version.

SyncPad https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/syncpad/id544015104?mt=8
I also reviewed the Edusim 3D virtual environment. It is so fascinating! It reminded me of the interactive play screen in the lobby at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY (only it is not 3D). This could be a very useful tool in the classroom to engage, spark new interest, and encourage imagination in students. I would very much like to use this in my classroom. I can only imagine the possibilities of this 3D world!
